Sylvia Harris is a gospel recording artist fairly new to the national scene; however she is no stranger to performing all over the state of Texas. She has become very well known in Texas in a fairly short period of time, starting out with local performances in her hometown of Houston, TX and eventually branching out to cities all over the state as
more people heard her voice and experienced the power of her ministry. Following her first concert in April 2015, she is currently gearing up for the release of her single “Saints in Praise (For Your Glory Lord)” this May 2015.
It was also during her youth that Sylvia’s talent was discovered and she was encouraged by those around her to sing in church, initially on youth day programs and as a part of the Young People Willing Workers (YPWW) program, and eventually in various groups and choirs in districts and jurisdictions throughout the Church of God In Christ (COGIC). Her earliest memory of performing was singing “Rough Side of the Mountain” at the age of 4 as her grandmother, the church musician, played the piano. Since then, she made her professional recording debut with Houston’s 5th Sunday Mass Choir leading the song entitled “Same Sweet Jesus” and recorded her first single “Saints in Praise (For Your Glory Lord)”.
Since her days of singing “Rough Side of the Mountain”, Sylvia has developed a unique style and sound all her own, developed through inspiration from the Holy Spirit and the infusion of her many musical influences which include the likes of The Winans, Whitney Houston The Clark Sisters, Aretha Franklin, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Commissioned, New Addition, and Tina Turner to name a few. . She is an energetic and anointed soloist and praise and worship leader whose mission as an artist is to share the love of Jesus with the world, and offer everyone she meets the opportunity to cultivate a relationship with Jesus Christ.
She has overcome so many of life’s obstacles and yet she remains rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ. Anything she does or says, anything she obtains, anything she conquers in life, she gives God the credit because she realizes that she couldn’t done it on her own. She believes firmly that everything she has encountered was because of purpose and her destiny that is to be fulfilled.
